HISTORY of Safe Sex

The year 2002, in connection with a voluntary work for one of the Aids Fonds
(of Denmark) sub-departments, I read an article in A&M News, the European
projects magazine, Aids & Mobility,
number. 3 April 2002.
The article “Migrant youth” by Nel van Beelen, talked about the difficulties
in reaching the young second and third generation migrants.
I got the thought, that maybe they could all be reached by making a song,
that in several different languages informs of the necessity in protecting
yourself and your partner by using a condom, when having intercourse.
Because the young ones can’t afford their active sex life, and the free
condom handout doesn’t work, the song also appeals to governments to
distribute free condoms.
The problem, for the young people, is, that they come from cultures, where
sex is not talked about, because it is not necessary according to the rules
of the cultures. Sex is only connected to marriage in these cultures, and it
is so hard for the older generation to accept, that their young ones may
have left the cultural norms, and has a difficult time to talk about this
subject with the young ones, just like many from our own culture.
Contacting the Aids fond in Denmark with the idea, gave the answer, “Send a
written application.” This answer did not show an interest, so I didn’t send
an application.
The idea hibernated for two years, then I borrowed money in the bank and
asked different talented musicians and writers to participate without pay.
The song was in fine cooperation recorded and mixed at Sink Studio in record
time, cause the money was small.
When I contacted Sweep production and asked Flemming Hansson to master the
song for free, thank God, he said Yes right away.
Then I got, not without difficulties, permission from Koda for the song to
be free downloaded from the internet.
In writing moment applications are out for production of cd’s, since not
everyone has the possibility or wants to only download the song, but wants a
real cd.
All participants wishes, that the song will be heard by as many young people
as possible, because Aids kills. Since it has proven possible to lose a
whole generation, as seen in Africa, it is now, we have to sing.
My personal thanks to everybody, that has given of their talents and time
for the song Safe Sex.

With love
Jonna
